How to Change a Blogspot to Dot Com


  1. The very first step is to find and purchase a domain name. You can head over to godaddy or namecheap to buy your domain name. In this tutorial, I will be using domain name bought from godaddy. ( Godaddy domain name is $0.99 for new customer)
  2. Sign into your Blogger dashboard. From the dashboard Click the Settings tab.
  3. Under the Publishing section, you should see your current blog address. And click +Setup a 3rd party URL for your blog.

  4. Type the domain name you’ve purchased. Make sure that the domain name begins with www and click save.
  5. It would show an error sign and display two CNAMEs. The first CNAME is the same for everyone Name “www” and Destination “ghs.googlehosted.com” while the second CNAME is different for everyone.
  6. Login to your GoDaddy account and click on products. This would show you all of domain you bought on Godaddy.Click on the domain name you wanted to use.
  7. Click on manage domain tab, Scroll down until you see the section titled “ CName ” (Alias) There are two CName, click on the first CName.
  8. Click the “ edit” button, type www in “Host”  and “Points to”, delete the @ sign and enter ghs.googlehosted.com and click save.
  9. Click on the second CNAME Alias Enter the info under the ERROR message on your Blogger Dashboard and click save.
  10. The next step is to add “A Records”, which allow your visitor to visit your blog when they forget to add www to your url.Click Add Record on the Domain Details Page
  11. Click on  “ A (host) “ in the “Host” box, enter the @ sign and in the “Points to” box, enter this IP Address:

               216.239.32.21
       And click on save. Repeat the process            for the three remaining IP address.
               216.239.34.21
               216.239.36.21
               216.239.38.21

After you finish adding the A Record you need to delete the initial  A Record. And save your work.

Your blog would automatically redirects to your new URL.
In extreme cases, it can take up to 48-72hours before the change take place, in my case it took five minutes and just like that my new blog URL has change.
Blogger make sure that you don't lose any traffic during this time, your old backlink is still the same for the new URL and this help you to avoid change in ranking position in SERP.
